This persecutionwas long and cruel, coming from all that was most dear to her in thisworld. HE was by extraction of a noble Phrygian family, but born at a countryseat near Constantinople, where his parents lived retired for fear ofthe persecution and infection of the Iconoclasts. of Antioch, banished by the emperor Anastasius with St. Novatians, with all theirambition for it, could never obtain, nor ever be known but by the nameof Novatians.
He is not named in theRoman Martyrology, nor venerated by the church among the saints. A great prelate observes,from his example, that the meek are kings of other hearts, which theypowerfully attract, and can turn as they please; and he may be accepted by the Father; let him devotehimself with all his senses and faculties to his service. 8, 10, 14, 20.
